More than a decade ago, a committed group of local community and business leaders decided it was time to take a new approach to creating a brighter future for New Mexico.
They saw value in the human potential of hardworking New Mexicans who faced barriers to business credit because of modest capital needs, lack of business or credit history, or limited collateral. Moved by a shared belief in the power of entrepreneurship, the group wanted to unleash the economic potential of emerging entrepreneurs and start a statewide movement of change one business, one family, one neighborhood at a time.
The movement started in 1994 when ACCION New Mexico made its first small business loan in Albuquerque, igniting outreach that today extends to every corner of the state. Since making that first loan, we have helped small business owners in more than 150 communities, working in some of the state’s poorest urban neighborhoods and most isolated rural communities.
Our defining mission has remained simple and powerful: Give committed and passionate entrepreneurs the tools to build small businesses so they can support their family, build assets and create jobs.
